Mid-Term Election Mania

The American public is inundated with the most horrible rhetoric I have experienced in my 40+ years of voting. In the national side how can you believe a party that is obstructionist and viciously attacked members of the opposing party in the press And have members that have called for violence / harassment of members of the opposition party. All politicians make campaign promises to the people that vote. Some promises can never be kept, some are kept, some are attempted but fail because they don’t get the support from both sides.

  1. At the state level I have watched an interesting set of issues. Mostly about education funding. I MUST STATE I SUPPORT EDUCATION, having said that, there are points that I take issue with. Calling for a strike by the OEA, was effective, to a point. The legislature, too little too late, took the Teachers, seriously and made progress toward fixing the issues. The teachers did get a raise and some funding for the classroom was restored. Where I begin to disagree was when the OEA leader continued to say it’s not enough. And basically continued to bargain in bad faith. “Bad faith how can you say that”? You may ask.
She continued her criticism of what was offered and when it was met, she changed the goal.
She lied to the public claiming she had a consensus of the Union membership, yet numerous members were never asked for their input.
She gave the perception that she wold hold the legislature hostage until all demands were met by continuing to strike. That is nothing short of extortion!

Was education fixed? Not completely, it was started down the path to a better system.

Should they Strike again this year? My personal opinion is No. this election will change the makeup of the state government.

How do we fix the problem? That is a subject for another. Daily Dose of Common Sense!

Support Your Country Not Your Political Party

This election cycle has become one of the nastiest, vilest, and character assassination events in the history of our country. When you have the mainstream media doing everything possible to keep the status quo. You wonder what has become of journalism.
I do not excuse either candidate for their lack of judgment in their statements made in the past. We have all said things that we have regretted, and whether or not we have admitted that regret and apologized for our lack of judgment does not seem to matter in this instance.
This election is not about what was said years ago by the Republican candidate, it is about whether you wish to continue to see your liberties eroded by the progressive liberal party candidate that sold influence in her pay for play scheme, lied about the true nature of the attack on our embassy in Ben Ghazi to the families of those killed, as well as to the nation and then had the audacity to claim that “it doesn’t really matter now” in a congressional hearing. Her failure to protect the security of the United States ambassador by denying 600 request for assistance until it was too late does not fit the requirements of a commander-in-chief. Her participation in the Obama administrations’ belief that to say the word radical Islamic Terrorist casts a shadow on all Muslims is just a way to allow the latest terrorist group to continue to grow.
The mainstream media considers it to be there right to know and their right to report every detail of any military action, including the strategy and plans in advance calling it news. When you tell your enemy that you’re going to pull out of an area at a certain time on a certain day, would you expect them to continue to fight as hard as possible. Until that time, or would you expect them to sit back and wait.
What would’ve happened had the Allied forces allowed the media to report that the invasion of Europe would take place in Normandy on June 6, 1944 prior to it taking place? The reason military operations are kept top-secret need to know is that the enemy doesn’t need to know.
The management of top-secret confidential and classified information is the top priority of any American, whether they be Joe the plumber or the Secretary of State. Joe the plumber probably wouldn’t have access to high level ultrasecret plans. The Secretary of State on the other hand should know better than to send classified information through an unsecured email server.
I am really losing faith in our elected officials. When I see that a member of the same party removes their support from their parties. Presidential candidate because of an inappropriate comment made several years ago. My only presumption is that that particular politician would prefer to support the other party’s candidate that has done even more offensive comments and been involved in policies and the making of policies that put our nation at risk.
So I say to all elected officials “remember who elected you, remember why you are elected, and remember the oath you took when you took office. You swore to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies foreign and domestic. If you can’t support your party support your country! Democrats I ask you to support your country, not your candidate unless you feel you are safer and better off now than you were eight years ago. Republicans get over yourself and back the choice of the voters in the primary.
Americans remember that our government was formed in the belief that it was to be a government of the people by the people and for the people.
The current administration has forgotten that part, as well as many of the elected officials that we expected to represent us, not themselves.

What has become of our compassion and understanding in the healthcare system

Having recently visited a local ER it has become apparent to me that the medical staff of today has lost some of its compassion and the ability to listen to the patient. When the nurse that was going to start an IV was looking at the arm, they were informed that the patient was a difficult stick, the veins were deep and full of valves. It was requested not to have the IV started in the AC (bend of the elbow). The nurse only looked at a crooked vein in the AC and that was where they started the line. Last year when a person was going to have surgery the staff in the pre-op area was informed that the patient was a difficult stick and if they could not get a peripheral line in one or two sticks to put in a central line. When the anesthesiologist resident came to do their pre-op assessment the same information was passed to them. Was the patient’s request followed? No! After approximately 20 attempts in both arms and IV was established for surgery. This was done after the patient had been sedated and when surgery was over the patient was horrified to see their extremities had been used as pincushion’s. The hands were bruised the arms were bruised and the IV that was started infiltrated. A formal complaint was made to the hospital and to the surgeon and that’s as far as I know, as far as it went.

What ever happened to the patient knows their body better than the medical staff, and their rights to have procedures done per their wishes seems to be ignored. I understand that sometimes it is more important to establish IV access to be able to administer emergency medications, but to directly ignore the patient that knows their body and knows the condition of their vessels better than the nurse trying to start the IV I think is a severe lack of professionalism and borderline malpractice. I say this not as a layperson, I say this not as someone who is angry and upset. I say this as someone who has been in the medical field for 40 years, worked in the emergency room, been a paramedic on an ambulance, been a nurse in the ICU/CCU, thoracic intensive care unit, and has been trained as a hemodialysis nurse. I understand the physiology of the vessels and how to cannulated a vessel that is considered fragile and difficult. But to see the results of what I have stated above and the total disregard for the patient’s wishes horrifies me.

United States had in the past been known for having the best medical care system worldwide. Not to be political, but since the government has decided that they know how to take care of patients better than the professionals and regulated reimbursement the quality has declined. Doctors and nurses are leaving the field because it’s just too difficult to maneuver through the regulations and try to do what’s best for the patient without being sued. It used to be thought that physicians made millions of dollars a year, I spoke with my cardiologist and discovered that his practice barely broke even for the past five years because of the changes in reimbursement from Medicare and the insurance companies.

Everyone has heard of the affordable care act. It is anything but affordable, you were lied to when you were told you could keep your Dr. and your premiums would go down! Of course when you have to pass a bill before you can read it, what do you expect? You may agree with this or not. You may be able to relate to this or not. You may think I’m crazy, but my favorite saying is you’ll get over it! Next time you go to the emergency room and they come in to do a procedure and you asked them to do a specific task in a specific way like don’t start the IV in my right arm because if I’m admitted I won’t be able to eat and they started in your right AC means you can’t bend your arm and it means you’re going to eat left-handed if you can, think about this post.

What does it mean when there is a “Government Shutdown”?

English: The western front of the United State...

When congress did not pass a spending bill by Midnight October 1,2013 the Government essentially shutdown. Any services that have been deemed as non-essential were closed. Despite the fear mongering  of some politicians, the sun rose at its appointed time for the time of year, the earth continued to stay in its orbit around the sun and life on earth did not end. Some federal workers continued to work and some were furloughed. Social Security checks were paid, medical bills were processed, our military continued to get paid and protect our country. Despite the attempts by the President of the Senate to demonize the House, the fact remains Harry Reid and his majority in the Senate refused to consider any option that the house has submitted. Not surprising since the senate leadership has continued to stonewall any financial bill that does anything to defund or even delay implementation of the affordable care act that was passed by the Pelosi controlled house ( which was to be passed before it could be read) and then approved by the Reid controlled Senate and sent to the president who signed it into law. All in the name of “for the good of the people”. The Congress is supposed to represent all Americans and what is best for the country. This Program contains items that have nothing to do with health care, has exemptions for Congressional Representatives and their staff and Senators and their staff. The president is exempt, Many Unions have been granted waivers because if they were to have to participate they would go broke. The Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision said that the part of this act that was in question as to be unconstitutional, was not. No where in the constitution is the right to health care mandated by the government granted.

Back to the possible results of a continued shutdown, if the debt limit is not raised ( for those of the uniformed that is how much the government can borrow on our credit) there is a possibility of the government  defaulting on their loans could happen. A scare tactic to make us afraid not increase the limit. Fellow citizens, let us look at why we have to increase the borrowing limit yet again. The government continues to get bigger and regulate more of everything we do. There are redundant programs for the same things that could be eliminated thus saving money. The Government continues to give aid to countries that willing take our money and use it to fight against us by support groups that are out to destroy us. We may have been the richest nation in the world and I do believe in helping those that can not help themselves, but I do not believe in continuing to support Countries that do not use the funds to help their people. Charity begins at home. We have elderly and children in our own country that go hungry every day, they are suffering because they do not qualify for assistance.Yet our president can go on more vacations to expensive places at the drop of the hat. We continue to send Billions to Pakistan to assist them in the fight against terrorism, yet they harbored Osama Bin Laden for years.

To the politicians in government I have but one thing to say, You are a public servant and are representing all the people not just a few. The money you are spending is not yours and you are no better than anyone else. If you write a bill to affect all the people, than let it affect you as well. You should have to pay into social security and medicare. You should have to fund your own retirement just like the rest of the people, and since you want the government to control healthcare, Than your plan should be regulated just like everyone you have targeted. Yes, I am saying that you should lose all those perks you have given yourselves. During this shutdown, You should not be paid until you have completed your duties. To the Senate, I say, Pass a budget that decreases spending, Eliminates redundant programs and shrinks the size of the bureaucracy. Stop spending money on foreign countries that do not use it to help their people. quit funding the UN’s attempt to usurp our laws. To the President, Sir you need to quit blaming others and take responsibility for your actions or lack of action. You need to stop attempting to circumvent the Constitution and grab power that is not yours. Your policies of only enforcing the laws you like is a travesty. Finally to the United States Supreme Court, Your honors, you have been tasked to interpret the laws to see if they met the standards set forth in the constitution. You are not to legislate from the bench. Your political views are not supposed to cloud your legal views. I suggest that you reread the constitution and consider the meaning that the framers had when they wrote it. It is Black and White, there is no grey of “fuzzy” area.

After reading this you may agree or disagree with the content. I recommend that you base any comments on facts and not feeling. Of course your response is your opinion and you have the right to express it.

Looking over the Fiscal Cliff

Is the Economy recovering? Does anyone in Washington really care about the rest of the country? Pushing past all the political rhetoric, do any of the elected officials have the guts to do what is right? Any answer I give would be on man’s opinion. However, would that one opinion resonate with more than one man or women? I quit watching the national news on three of the major networks, not because I did not like what they said it was the fact that they did not report the entire truth. They overlooked mistakes by the administration that they took the previous administration to task. I could care less about a birth certificate when the Commander-in-chief demonstrates a lack of knowledge and makes announcements of timetables to withdraw from areas of conflict. The first two years he had control of everything as his party had majorities in the House and Senate. What did they accomplish? That is was politics as usual for the left and what was supposed to be the most Transparent Administration in history, was playing the same elitist power games as they always have done. The economy had tanked in 2008, The TARP bailout did not do what it was supposed to do, The Wall street bailout did not bring about the proper reforms, two of the big three Motor companies sought bailout money to keep from going Bankrupt. Then Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi informed the country that congress would have to pass the Health Care bill before we could read what was in it. In addition, unbeknownst to the general population the ATF and the FBI were running a program (Fast and Furious) that knowingly put automatic weapons in the hands of the Mexican Drug cartels. We were being told that our borders were more secure now than they had ever been. Every December we would come toward the end of the year and the Senate had not passed a Budget. Therefore, they would tell the House that we would need to keep the Government open or our brave troops would be without a paycheck and others depending upon government subsidies would go without. They would Raise the Debt ceiling and pass what is called a Continuing Resolution. Congress, those people who were elected to represent us, Continue to pass all kinds of legislation that sounds like worthy bills until you read them and discover that the original title has little to do with all the amendments and riders that had been attached to them. Two years passed and the economy did not turn around. The Mid-term elections brought about some new blood to Washington in the form of a conservative grass-roots group called the Tea Party. The ideals that they stood for was to end this uncontrolled spending and restore the nations fiscal sanity. The Left, for every evil thing that has come down the pike, has blamed the Tea Party. Two years had passed and the country was headed for fiscal disaster. The Fed decided to continue to print money so that there would be enough to cover the debt… After three years, the Fed has printed so much that the value of the Dollar has fallen as well as the United States Credit Rating. The 2012 election cycle brought out the true colors of the Democrats seeking re-election. The Republicans began to gain support when the message was final getting out to the public. No thanks to the Mainstream media, the message about the dangers of continuing down the current path and the looming of approaching the Fiscal Cliff was becoming quite disturbing. Harry Reid‘s leadership has a Senate that has not done its job and passed a formal Budget in over 1000 days. Their answer to the upcoming fiscal challenge is of no surprise, Raise Taxes. At first, it was just let all of the Bush Era Tax cuts expire. That drew some very angry response from Their base as well as the rest of the country. Therefore, they said they would only Tax the “Rich”, anyone making over $250,000 dollars per year. That put the bull’s eye on the majority of the small business owners, and was just as problematic. No compromise has been completed, they are on break. January 1 is getting closer and here is what you can expect when you wake up New Years day. The triple whammy, your income tax will return to the previous levels of the Clinton era with the TOP Business rate going back to 39%, OBAMA-CARE begins, and that is going to increase the cost of Health Insurance and penalize the small business owner financially requiring them to provide healthcare for their workers. This will begin to cause many that have been struggling to keep the doors open to go ahead and close them. That in turn will cause the unemployment rate to start climbing and the system cannot even afford to continue to pay those currently unemployed for much longer much less sustain and increase in those seeking benefits. That will cause the Unemployment Tax to be increased, and yes, more small businesses will again have to shut down due to the increased Tax burden. The Senate has still not passed a budget, but will be looking to raise the debt ceiling. Since a budget has yet to be passed, this will cause the automatic cuts to start taking place. The biggest will come from the Department of Defense. With our Armed forces, still fighting in Afghanistan and even with the withdrawal this will seriously jeopardize their safety and their mission. The next area is the Department of Human services; you know the agency that controls Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security… In 1981, Ronald Reagan made a speech about the economy and the government’s role. He said “I this desperate time, the government is not the solution to the problem. The Government is the Problem!” Raising Taxes is not the answer to the Fiscal problem cutting spending and balancing the budget is the only sane answer. Oh, but we do not have a budget because Harry Reid will not bring any proposals to the floor for a vote. I have some advice for those in both the Senate and the House. The trust that voters put in you to do the job is waning, you could be recalled, and you can be replaced. I know that this idea has passed around the internet several times but I think it would be very interesting to see how quickly some problems would get solved were this to happen. A strong block of Representatives and Senators get together and submit legislation to remove all the waivers given to everyone on Obama-Care especially to the Pro Tem of the Senate and staff and the Speaker of the House and their Staff. Of course some amendments would also be added (as they always are) to eliminate the retirement system for the Congress and place everyone on Social Security. Eliminate the Healthcare program for the congress and make them buy their own and pay for it out of their own pocket. Eliminate the 100% vesting in their retirement for serving one term. Here is another good one, No Senator can serve more than 3 terms (12 years), and the same goes for The House of Representatives (a total of 12 Years). The Executive Branch already has a two-term limit, but the postage right and Secret Service Detail should end after they leave office, security would be provided by The TSA. The First family should have to Pay for their airline flights whether the fly commercial or on Air Force 1. Vacations should be for immediate staff only no 50-person entourage. The First Lady should not be able to take Vacations that cost the Taxpayer. It should come out of the Presidents pocket. This President spends more time playing Golf than working; it should come out of his pocket!

The Fiscal Cliff should have been dealt with during the past four years. It is unfortunate that common sense in government is an oxymoron and is not at all common. The Fed did do one thing partially correct. To cover a portion of the cost of the money that was printed, they began selling Treasury Bonds with a decent rate of return. The only problem is that the largest purchaser of these bonds was the Federal Reserve… Print Money to buy bonds that back the money that was printed. It does not take a Harvard Business School Graduate to figure out that this is just bad. Try that same philosophy in your own business and you would end up in jail for Fraud. In the 1980’s that practice was called the buying and selling of Junk Bonds and lead to big financial disaster for many investors. I would think that as a country we would avoid things that would devalue our currency and cost us our freedom. One of the major investors in American T-bills is the Chinese Government. Soon the interest payment alone on the debt is going to be greater than the GDP and that will be the signal for the investors to pull out leaving Us with nothing and becoming just like Greece. Bankrupt and looking for someone to bail us out! Unfortunately, if we go, the global economy will follow suit and the depression that follows will be worse than that of the 1930’s.

If you have made it through all of this, are still thinking I am not some pessimistic believer in Gloom, and Doom, shouting, “The End is near!” Congratulations, Welcome to the latest reality check. It is easy to write something like this if all you are doing is complaining, but that is not my purpose. Citing a problem is one thing, offering a viable solution is altogether different. Here is a solution that while can be a stretch in some area’s can be fiscally prudent. Politically it is probably not viable due to the content. Too many Politicians have gotten rich and powerful and this would end that.

  1. Reestablish the Gold Standard for backing or currency. Problematic because, we currently do not own enough Gold to do it at the current time.
  2. Enact legislation that would prohibit the printing of money without the means on hand to back it. Then enforce it!
  3. Review all Foreign Aid programs. Stop all aid to countries that is in the form of currency! All humanitarian aid in the form of Food, Medical supplies, and equipment except Military equipment shall be distributed by a reputable organization such as The Red Cross.
  4. Stop the sale of weapons to countries that are dictatorships or do not support our views of the rights of all men and women.
  5. Stop the sale of anything to any country that supports Terrorism or the destruction of Israel.
  6. Stop Importing Oil from nations that are violating current sanctions on Iran or are selling weapons and nuclear technology to non nuclear-countries
  7. Demand that the European countries that have not done so, repay their World War II debt with interest.
  8. Inform the UN that we will no longer pay more than any other country to support its operations and that if they do not like it, Move to France or Germany. Let Europe and the rest of the world know that we will no longer provide Military support free. The UN countries will need to Pony-up their fair share of soldiers and Military equipment for all of their Peace keeping missions or pay the cost of renting ours.
  9. The CBO (Congressional Budget Office) and the GAO (Government Accounting Office) will review the cost to the American Taxpayer of the retirement system and the Healthcare system of the three branches of Government. Recommendations to convert both over to direct contribution system like any other retirement system. The three branches would also begin paying for FICA and Medicare. No Breaks for Elected officials or their staff. The Perks for a retiring president to maintain a fully staffed office with Secret Service will be reviewed and revised.
  10. The Tax Code will be thrown OUT!!! The IRS will be disbanded. In Place Of Personal Federal Income Tax, we will convert to either a Nation Sales tax or a flat tax. One that everybody pays.
  11. Entitlement Programs shall be eliminated. The following Programs are not entitlements (Social Security & Medicare) The Welfare programs WIC Programs, Food Stamp Programs, Earned Income Credit Programs, Farm subsidy programs, Unemployment benefits for people that quit looking, Business Taxes, Gone. Redundant programs in multiple agencies shall be eliminated.
  12. The National affordable Healthcare act shall be repealed.
  13. Tort Reform shall be completed. Nuisance suits shall be disallowed. Caps on Punitive damage and Pain and Suffering shall be set. Activist Judges shall be removed from the bench.
  14. Immigration Laws shall be enforced and illegal immigrants will be deported. Illegal immigrants will not be eligible for Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid. Drug Runners shall be dealt with swiftly. Repeat offenders (Drug Dealers) will be jailed as terrorists and sent to GITMO.
  15. The Senate will submit and Pass a budget by June 1st of each year and it must be balanced or it will stay in session until it is completed. No more spending more than is taken in. Each budget shall include a substantial repayment portion of the national debt. Congress must stay in session until their work is completed.

I am sure that this will rankle the feathers of more than a few on the Hill and across the country. Those that think this is crazy ask yourself this one question, Why do elected officials want to stay in office for 20 plus years? What repercussions do elected officials face for pork barrel spending and fleecing the American people? During founding of this nation the continental congress was meeting daily trying to agree on the framework of this country, A women asked Ben Franklin What kind of government did we now have? His reply was priceless, “republic if you can keep it.”

The founders knew what could happen if time was not taken to make it clear that, this was a government Of the People, For the People, and by the people. I would not take much to see the Government step in and start controlling every aspect of life, just as it has tried to do now.

Think about this and comment as you wish.
