Mid-Term Election Mania

The American public is inundated with the most horrible rhetoric I have experienced in my 40+ years of voting. In the national side how can you believe a party that is obstructionist and viciously attacked members of the opposing party in the press And have members that have called for violence / harassment of members of the opposition party. All politicians make campaign promises to the people that vote. Some promises can never be kept, some are kept, some are attempted but fail because they don’t get the support from both sides.

  1. At the state level I have watched an interesting set of issues. Mostly about education funding. I MUST STATE I SUPPORT EDUCATION, having said that, there are points that I take issue with. Calling for a strike by the OEA, was effective, to a point. The legislature, too little too late, took the Teachers, seriously and made progress toward fixing the issues. The teachers did get a raise and some funding for the classroom was restored. Where I begin to disagree was when the OEA leader continued to say it’s not enough. And basically continued to bargain in bad faith. “Bad faith how can you say that”? You may ask.
She continued her criticism of what was offered and when it was met, she changed the goal.
She lied to the public claiming she had a consensus of the Union membership, yet numerous members were never asked for their input.
She gave the perception that she wold hold the legislature hostage until all demands were met by continuing to strike. That is nothing short of extortion!

Was education fixed? Not completely, it was started down the path to a better system.

Should they Strike again this year? My personal opinion is No. this election will change the makeup of the state government.

How do we fix the problem? That is a subject for another. Daily Dose of Common Sense!

Support Your Country Not Your Political Party

This election cycle has become one of the nastiest, vilest, and character assassination events in the history of our country. When you have the mainstream media doing everything possible to keep the status quo. You wonder what has become of journalism.
I do not excuse either candidate for their lack of judgment in their statements made in the past. We have all said things that we have regretted, and whether or not we have admitted that regret and apologized for our lack of judgment does not seem to matter in this instance.
This election is not about what was said years ago by the Republican candidate, it is about whether you wish to continue to see your liberties eroded by the progressive liberal party candidate that sold influence in her pay for play scheme, lied about the true nature of the attack on our embassy in Ben Ghazi to the families of those killed, as well as to the nation and then had the audacity to claim that “it doesn’t really matter now” in a congressional hearing. Her failure to protect the security of the United States ambassador by denying 600 request for assistance until it was too late does not fit the requirements of a commander-in-chief. Her participation in the Obama administrations’ belief that to say the word radical Islamic Terrorist casts a shadow on all Muslims is just a way to allow the latest terrorist group to continue to grow.
The mainstream media considers it to be there right to know and their right to report every detail of any military action, including the strategy and plans in advance calling it news. When you tell your enemy that you’re going to pull out of an area at a certain time on a certain day, would you expect them to continue to fight as hard as possible. Until that time, or would you expect them to sit back and wait.
What would’ve happened had the Allied forces allowed the media to report that the invasion of Europe would take place in Normandy on June 6, 1944 prior to it taking place? The reason military operations are kept top-secret need to know is that the enemy doesn’t need to know.
The management of top-secret confidential and classified information is the top priority of any American, whether they be Joe the plumber or the Secretary of State. Joe the plumber probably wouldn’t have access to high level ultrasecret plans. The Secretary of State on the other hand should know better than to send classified information through an unsecured email server.
I am really losing faith in our elected officials. When I see that a member of the same party removes their support from their parties. Presidential candidate because of an inappropriate comment made several years ago. My only presumption is that that particular politician would prefer to support the other party’s candidate that has done even more offensive comments and been involved in policies and the making of policies that put our nation at risk.
So I say to all elected officials “remember who elected you, remember why you are elected, and remember the oath you took when you took office. You swore to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies foreign and domestic. If you can’t support your party support your country! Democrats I ask you to support your country, not your candidate unless you feel you are safer and better off now than you were eight years ago. Republicans get over yourself and back the choice of the voters in the primary.
Americans remember that our government was formed in the belief that it was to be a government of the people by the people and for the people.
The current administration has forgotten that part, as well as many of the elected officials that we expected to represent us, not themselves.

What has become of our compassion and understanding in the healthcare system

Having recently visited a local ER it has become apparent to me that the medical staff of today has lost some of its compassion and the ability to listen to the patient. When the nurse that was going to start an IV was looking at the arm, they were informed that the patient was a difficult stick, the veins were deep and full of valves. It was requested not to have the IV started in the AC (bend of the elbow). The nurse only looked at a crooked vein in the AC and that was where they started the line. Last year when a person was going to have surgery the staff in the pre-op area was informed that the patient was a difficult stick and if they could not get a peripheral line in one or two sticks to put in a central line. When the anesthesiologist resident came to do their pre-op assessment the same information was passed to them. Was the patient’s request followed? No! After approximately 20 attempts in both arms and IV was established for surgery. This was done after the patient had been sedated and when surgery was over the patient was horrified to see their extremities had been used as pincushion’s. The hands were bruised the arms were bruised and the IV that was started infiltrated. A formal complaint was made to the hospital and to the surgeon and that’s as far as I know, as far as it went.

What ever happened to the patient knows their body better than the medical staff, and their rights to have procedures done per their wishes seems to be ignored. I understand that sometimes it is more important to establish IV access to be able to administer emergency medications, but to directly ignore the patient that knows their body and knows the condition of their vessels better than the nurse trying to start the IV I think is a severe lack of professionalism and borderline malpractice. I say this not as a layperson, I say this not as someone who is angry and upset. I say this as someone who has been in the medical field for 40 years, worked in the emergency room, been a paramedic on an ambulance, been a nurse in the ICU/CCU, thoracic intensive care unit, and has been trained as a hemodialysis nurse. I understand the physiology of the vessels and how to cannulated a vessel that is considered fragile and difficult. But to see the results of what I have stated above and the total disregard for the patient’s wishes horrifies me.

United States had in the past been known for having the best medical care system worldwide. Not to be political, but since the government has decided that they know how to take care of patients better than the professionals and regulated reimbursement the quality has declined. Doctors and nurses are leaving the field because it’s just too difficult to maneuver through the regulations and try to do what’s best for the patient without being sued. It used to be thought that physicians made millions of dollars a year, I spoke with my cardiologist and discovered that his practice barely broke even for the past five years because of the changes in reimbursement from Medicare and the insurance companies.

Everyone has heard of the affordable care act. It is anything but affordable, you were lied to when you were told you could keep your Dr. and your premiums would go down! Of course when you have to pass a bill before you can read it, what do you expect? You may agree with this or not. You may be able to relate to this or not. You may think I’m crazy, but my favorite saying is you’ll get over it! Next time you go to the emergency room and they come in to do a procedure and you asked them to do a specific task in a specific way like don’t start the IV in my right arm because if I’m admitted I won’t be able to eat and they started in your right AC means you can’t bend your arm and it means you’re going to eat left-handed if you can, think about this post.

Choosing The Right Candidate

Good Sunday morning America

I was savoring my first cup of coffee this morning and was listening to the television when the normal program at this time period was talking politics and the upcoming presidential election. I wish to thank the Constitution of the United States for allowing differing opinions to be shared without the possibility of reprisals from the Government.

I decided to place these questions before all that care to read them:

  1. What qualities does a presidential candidate need to run the country?
  2. Which is more important, Trust or party line?
  3. If you where the candidate, who are you trying to convince you can do the job the best? The People or The Donors?
  4. What are the qualities, of the political party of each candidate, that you trust and which do you agree with? What the qualities that you completely disagree with?
  5. Should the candidate be run by the Political party and it’s leadership or should the Party be led by the candidate?
  6. Who do you trust to tell the truth, the Media, the Hollywood Celebrities, The Political Party talking heads or the Political candidates?
  7. Which Political ideology do you trust to restore America to greatness?
  8. Which candidate should we elect and trust with the keys to our Nuclear Arsenal?
  9. Which candidate do you think will support “The Constitution of the United States of America” as written and not attempt to circumvent the “separation of powers” section?
  10. Which candidate do you think would appoint a supreme court justice that would base their decisions on the constitution and the intents of the framers not on the political whims and desires to legislate from the bench?
  11. Which candidate do you think would be a better commander-in-chief and support our armed forces? Why?
  12. Which candidate do you think will demonstrate a prudent approach  to handling matters of National Security with a greater sense of responsibility.
  13. Which candidate is more likely to keep their promises and do what is the best interest of the American people and not the already elected politicians and special interest groups?

This upcoming election may determine the course our country takes and will be paid for by our grandchildren. Your vote matters no matter which candidate you choose. I urge you to do your own research and make an informed choice. Take nothing for granted, trust your instincts. Pray for our country and our elected officials. Pray for the guidance to make the best choice for us all.

God Bless America

2016 Presidential Election – Who Do You Trust?

Every four years, we the American people go through a yearlong mind-boggling affair named “The Election Cycle”! This year we have seen a struggle for the nomination of the republican candidate with 16 people seeking that nomination. Through countless debates the field narrowed to 3, then to one. Although there was a threat of a “contested convention”, The GOP came together 9Sort of) and nominated Donald Trump as the parties’ candidate for president. Donald then announced Governor Pence as his running mate. I respect both men for the tenacity and grit to put up with the grind and traps of a political campaign. The balloons have fallen and the floor has been swept clean, Cleveland can now breathe a sigh of relief as the potential target has moved to Philadelphia, the City of brotherly Love. The Democrats Convention started yesterday, and Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be the nominee for the Democrats. Bernie Sanders had a decent run, but the Clinton Money machine prevailed in the end.

Now the question comes “Who Do You Trust?”. In an attempt to be non-partisan, I ask each of you to consider the facts. Both have trust issues when the public is polled, however a poll like a scientific study can be skewed to meet the desired result. Ask this question, which person has in the past demonstrated a grave lack of responsibility in the handling of Classified and Top secret information. The FBI did their investigation and the director decide that no charges would be filed yet, the Director of the FBI stated that while Secretary of State Clinton displayed an extreme lack of judgement storing classified information on a private e-mail server. Now a great question, “If her last name wasn’t ‘Clinton” and she mishandled the same information in the same manner, would she have received the same treatment and could she avoid charges. Could she be able to pass a background check and get a security clearance?

Let’s be fair, Donald is no saint and has had his problems as well, He tends to speak his mind, sometimes before he thinks it through. He can be very Brash and insulting. Could he be a diplomatic when dealing with Foreign dignitaries without causing an incident? Donald can rub people the wrong way very quickly, can he be trusted to do what is in the best interest of the Nation?

I will not attempt to sway your opinion either way on either candidate. I will ask you to consider the nation’s best interest and consider which one you can trust more?

I also ask that on November 1st 2016 that you exercise your privilege and vote .

THE GIFT OF LIFE – ORGAN DONATION

There are many diseases’ that cause the need for replacing an organ. In this article I will focus on one organ, the Kidney. The Kidney is a filter and to keep it simple, it filters the blood to remove waste products, balance electrolytes and fluid. It can be damaged by other problems such as Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Bacterial infections and viruses. It can be damaged by Trauma as well. When the organ is damaged it may continue to work until it can no longer keep up with the filtration and Fluid/Electrolyte balance. The Person begins to become symptomatic and requires supplemental filtration in the form of Dialysis. If the person is diagnosed and treated prior to requiring dialysis they remain in fairly good health by following the treatment plan. That can prolong the eventual need for supplemental treatment. There is no cure for Renal Failure. That sounds harsh but it is true. He on options a person with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is either Dialysis or Organ transplantation. I am addressing the Latter in this piece.

Organ Transplantation

The process involves multiple phases and is still only a treatment.

Phase One: Identifying the need for Renal Replacement therapy. This is the first step in the treatment plan and if CKD is discovered early enough The detriment to other organs may be lessened. The need for follow-up with a specialist is discovered in the Primary Care Physician’s office during a routine lab draw, it could be a visit to another specialist, when lab is drawn or symptoms are present. The referral to a Nephrologist is made and the Diagnosis is confirmed. The severity can bel classified in 5 stages. These Stages are based upon the GFR (Glomerular Filtration Rate). Stages 1 -4 are managed medically until the GFR begins to drastically drop. At that point depending upon how fast it is dropping and what stage the person is in determines the course.

Phase 2: Management of the disease is extremely important as the more compliant the person is with the treatment plan the longer the patient may stay healthier until they can be listed and receive the Gift of life in the form of Organ Transplantation. This would include regular follow-up with the Nephrologist, adhering to the Diet and Fluid management guidelines, compliance with taking prescribed medications as directed and on a schedule, and exercise to stay as healthy as possible. As the Person continues to move from stage to stage the Health care team will evaluate the potential for the person to be a candidate for a transplant.

Phase 3: Candidacy for Transplantation is evaluated by the Healthcare Team at a transplant center. The team consists of The Transplant Coordinator, Transplant Surgeon, Dietician, Social Worker, Transplant Pharmacist, and Transplant Nurses in the center. Once referred to the Center, the person is tested and informed of all the process involved in transplantation. The testing is done for tissue match and other markers used to evaluate the patient. Once the person has cleared all the process and has been determined a candidate for receiving the gift of life in the form of an organ, they will be placed on the Transplant List as either active or on hold till qualifications are met.

Phase 4: Listing the patient is a huge step. If the medical qualifications show that the person meets the Standard at which Medicare guidelines approve the transplant is needed, the person is placed on the active list and begins to accumulate points. That sounds cold… The guidelines are based on studies and outcomes of transplantation. The most significant value is the GFR. If the GFR does not fall below 20 a person 18 years and older cannot not be active on the list and accumulate points, a child until their 18th birthday can be listed sooner.

Phase 5: The wait… Once active on the list the candidate accumulates points based upon time on the list and other values. The wait, depending upon Blood type, other markers and points can be as long as 3 to 5 years. During which the candidate must remain compliant with their treatment plan, diet, medications. They will continue to be followed when they are at the top of the list they can receive The Call.

Phase 6: “The Call” can come at any time night or day. The Candidate has to respond and be at the transplant Center within 4 hours. The coordinator doesn’t call the candidate at the top, they will also call others that are below the top in case The top one is disqualified due to a change in health. This could be having a cold at the time of the call, or running a fever due to a virus. That sounds cold and heartless but it is for the safety of the candidate. Because the first thing that is done prop is to give an extremely strong medication to wipe out the immune system. This helps to prevent rejection.

Phase 7: “The Gift of Life” – I refer to the donated organ as the gift of life. The organ can be from a familial member (no waiting list for that), A Directed Donor (Someone who offers an organ to the candidate and is a match), and the most common a cadaveric Donor (someone who has marked their Drivers License as an Organ Donor or the family over a loved one that has expressed their wishes to donate their organs). The Familial and Directed Donors do not have to wait longer than the donors’ candidacy to be approved. The Donor must meet the criteria to be able to give an organ. The cadaveric donor is an organ for someone that has died which make the time line very short. The call is made to the Transplant center that an organ is available if they have a candidate that matches. Once accepted the race is on to get the Candidate ready to receive their gift.

Phase 8: “The Transplantation Surgery” – This is the procedure that puts the donated organ into the recipient and begins the next phase of this treatment. I am not going to get into the surgery portion due to the technical nature and the fact that the Surgical teams are the best at what they do.

Phase 9: “The Recovery” – Post operative the recipient is monitored and the anti-rejection medication is adjusted for the best outcome. If the Donor was living, their recovery is monitored just as any patient that had a major surgery would be. That is because they have just had a major surgery. Once the recipient has been released the new Treatment Plan begins.

Phase 10: “Living with a transplanted Organ” Since transplantation is only a treatment, the recipient must continue to stay compliant with their medications as scheduled. Every dose at exactly the same time every day. This is one of the hardest things for a young person to do but it is the most important for all recipients. Continued follow-up with the Transplant clinic and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is how the recipient can keep their gift and honor the donor.

This is the process, dealing with the need for a transplant and the wait for an organ when it is a loved one can leave one asking why is this so complicated. One answer is that each donated organ is so precious because of the lack of tissue donors. Each organ affects 3 people, the donor the recipient and the next in line. If the recipient does not stay compliant with their treat it affects 2 other lives. The one that died giving and the one that may have died waiting. This can be a heavy burden to carry if the recipient does not understand the value. As the family member one must help them to understand the value and the need to remain compliant and healthy to protect their “Gift of Life”.

If you have ever considered becoming a living donor or wish to share your organs after you have died. Contact Organ Donation: Donate Life America or Organ Donor Registry. Share the “Gift of Life”

Dealing with Chronic Kidney Disease

Imagine being informed that your hours old baby has developed Acute Renal Failure. What that means is that for some reason the kidneys have stopped doing their job. The outcomes are not good, but with the appropriate treatment and care should be fatal…. Yet! The infant rose from a mere 8lbs 13oz at birth to 12lbs in less than 24 hours. The NICU staff worked with the Pediatric Nephrologist to helps the baby’s’ Kidneys start on their own. Within 24 hours the staff had succeed in waking up the kidney’s. What does this mean for the child? The cause of the Acute Failure had to be determined to see if this was just a fluke or if the Kidneys would eventual fail. As a parent and being in the medical field, the outlook was not clear as to what the infant would need in the future. Two very concerned parents praying for the best but mentally preparing for the worst. The questions of why did this happen? Could something have been done to prevent this? Will my child live to be a Father/Mother? Having a medical background, both parents realized that this was not because God was punishing them, but he was tasking them with a course that would make them a very strong family. Faith and Medicine go hand in hand. Regular visits to the Pediatric Nephrologists getting urine and blood each visit and watching the trends was a part of life. The shock to the father was when at the tender age of 18 months he was told the kidneys are working well enough that the child would not need a transplant very soon. This was not something that had even been brought up. Fast Forward 16 years. Child continue regular visits with the Pediatric nephrologist’s and is in what was called Stage 3 CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease), Although he was not progressing towards the worsening stages the parents had already been made aware that it could happen at any time. The Child was active in after school activities and doing fairly well with adjustments to their medications. In February 2015, The child became very symptomatic, complaining of extreme fatigue, having difficulty remembering things Nausea, The Lab work showed that level of function had dropped from 33 to 18 in just a couple of weeks. That being a significant drop might be indicating that the kidneys were about to quite being able to filter the waste products well enough and that the child may need to start Dialysis very soon. The child would also need to be worked up for a transplant. The Nephrologist realizing that the child would be turning 18 before the transplant process to get the child on the list an active would be very difficult. The decision was made to work up the patient through the pediatric transplant center as the wait time would be less.

Having delved into this scenario what would the complications be that could prevent the patient from getting listed and receive an organ sooner than later? To start with there are not enough Organ donors to get all that need transplant an organ. They must prioritize. The best organ donor would be a family member that had the best match. This is called a living related donor. The next best would be someone else non-related that was a match and was willing to donate. Having neither of those available then it would come from a cadaveric donor. That means some that has marked the box on their Driver’s License to be an organ donor and when they are fatally wounded our traumatized in an accident The Organ sharing network goes into action. All this is regulated by the Federal Government and Medicare. They set the standards and the way the list is kept. This is to prevent someone with a big pocket book getting moved up to the top over a patient that has been waiting for up to three years. The standards change once the patient reaches the age of 18. As a pediatric patient the patient would be listed when their value reached 22. At the age of 18, the value for them to be listed is 18 or below. The problem with a value that low ids will the patient be able to remain healthy enough to receive the kidney. The lower that value the more chance that the patient will need to be started on dialysis. The value I have referred to is the GFR (Glomerular Filtration Rate) and the Table for the stages of Chronic Kidney Disease were downloaded 02/19/2016 @ 01:46 from Renal Function – Wikipedia

This issue has become a question to me. Why do you wait to work up pediatric patients until they are so close to needing dialysis that they are almost too sick to survive the transplant surgery and recover? Preventative measures would be to start the process for any Renal patient that has reached stage 3, the could be put on the list and start accumulating time at a slower rate that say a stage 4 or stage 5. If there was a kidney available that had enough points to match the could be call as an alternate maybe even a 3rd or 4th alternate. Changing the rate required for pediatrics at 18 and requiring them to fall under the adult guidelines makes no sense. Of course the ideal situation would be to have enough donors that were willing to help another human being on the list that the wait time would not be so long.

I am not complaining about the system in as much as It is a personal issue as my child is the model I gave. We finished all the work up and when it was time for the final labs to qualify the GFR that had been 18 and 19 went up to 22 to 25. Good news as it means no dialysis but it also means can’t be on the active list.

What Is Best for America

I will preface this post with the Statement: Listed below are the opinions of the author. It is not the intent to offend or discriminate. The statements are as factual as the author could check. Your choice is not to argue with or agree with the opinion, but to form your own opinion. Eleanor Roosevelt once said “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

America has lost her brilliance over the years because of the apathy of the people to care about what can be done as a group.

When our framers founded this country, the set forth how our government should operate. They made sure that there would be no “State Sponsored” religion, People would be free to practice their religion without fear of government restriction. The Press would be free to print whatever it would print, and people would have the right to assemble and speak their opinions.

The founders also based this on the Christian Bible as that was what the people of the colonies referred to. Saying a prayer in a public building was allowed, each session of Congress was started with a Prayer, The Supreme Court of the United States has on its Walls of the chamber The Ten Commandments. Before we get into that invalid argument that the constitution states there will be a separation of church and state, read “The Ten Commandments”, Tell me which of them is not common sense. For those that do not believe in God, What about the other nine? Agnostics believe in a higher power so all ten could apply.

Why then do I say that the brilliance has been tarnished? Simple answer is that our government has lost touch with the meaning put forth in that Document. The Congress is supposed to listen to ALL of the people that they represent and form their bills so that it is of benefit to all not just a few! When both houses have agreed upon the bill, they send it to The President to either sign into Law or VETO and send back to congress which then can either fix the language or override the veto. Sounds fairly simple…. It is unfortunate that the elected officials have forgotten their oath to support and defend the Constitution. In that document it enumerates the power of the Government. It divides it into three branches, Legislative, Executive, and Judicial. This is so that there is to be checks and balances to prevent One branch from taking total control of the Government and relieving the citizens of their rights and their liberties. The Senate does not have the authority to spend Money. The House of Representatives cannot ratify a treaty. The President can issue an Executive Order, but that order should not circumvent the Congress or the Constitution, nor can it ratify a treaty or appropriate money to fund something that Congress has not approved. I saved the Supreme Court for last. It was meant to be the weakest of the three. The courts duty is to hear cases that have been brought before them to determine if those case follow the Constitution. The Judges are nominated for appointment by the President and go through confirmation hearings in the Senate. That committee is supposed to determine if the appointee is worthy of the post. The committee is supposed to send the Name to The Full Senate to either be Confirmed or Declined. The nominee should remember that they are being appointed to the Bench for Life and that they are to read the case before them and see if it meets the Constitution. They should not have an agenda to change the Law or to Interrupt their vision of what the constitution should be. The Constitution was written in very Plain English and not a bunch of confusing legalese! Congress should do the same with their legislation.

I have laid a lot of issues on the Government as to the tarnishing of America’s Brilliance as they are responsible for their actions. I must now state that it cannot be all blamed on them. The people have to take ownership in that responsibility as they are the ones that sent them to Washington. I simple ask each and every American to carefully consider their choice. Ask yourself what John F Kennedy asked the nation in his Inaugural address “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”. The Government was never intended to do everything for the citizens, People should not get paid for not working, not looking for work, or just being Lazy. Unemployment benefits should not last forever. People the come into this country illegally should not be able to receive benefits and services for which they have never worked for. Illegal means Illegal and people that break the law (Illegal Entry into the country) do not have the “Right” to all the benefits of those that are here Legally. Employers that hire Illegal Immigrants’ Should have to pay hefty fines. The problem is that many Americans feel those particular jobs are beneath them. Companies are sending more jobs overseas and across the border thus creating more unemployed. Why do they do that? Because the American worker expects to be paid an outrageous amount to perform the lowest entry level jobs. Minimum wage was set to protect the worker from being taken advantage of, not to give them a lifestyle that many have worked hard for many years to achieve. Common sense tells one that if the minimum wage is elevated to $10.00/hr, the effect will be felt in everyone’s pocketbook. The cost of everything will have to be increased to keep the doors open. A good many of those doors will close forever. This is not the American Dream!

If you have made it this far, it is time to provide solutions for the above problems. The task is quite simple, be proactive, get involved with helping others. Ask the hard questions to the candidates running for office at all levels. Are they for the Constitution and are willing to follow it to the letter? Do they believe that our Government should spend no more than it legally takes in? Do we believe in sending all that have entered this country illegally back to where they came from and give them a chance to enter through the legal channels? Next Make sure all that are able to vote can get to the poll to exercise their privilege without being told to vote for any one person. They should be allowed to make their own choice. That transportation should be non-partisan! Finally, it is time that we quit rewriting history so as not to offend people. Tell the truth about how this country was founded and the problems it endured. Show them how many problems were solved by people standing up for the rights of others. The Declaration of Independence states that “All men are created equal under the eyes of God” When that was written it was not to exclude anyone! So is the Constitution meant to be for all of “We the People”. Take ownership and responsibility!

What does it mean when there is a “Government Shutdown”?

English: The western front of the United State...

When congress did not pass a spending bill by Midnight October 1,2013 the Government essentially shutdown. Any services that have been deemed as non-essential were closed. Despite the fear mongering  of some politicians, the sun rose at its appointed time for the time of year, the earth continued to stay in its orbit around the sun and life on earth did not end. Some federal workers continued to work and some were furloughed. Social Security checks were paid, medical bills were processed, our military continued to get paid and protect our country. Despite the attempts by the President of the Senate to demonize the House, the fact remains Harry Reid and his majority in the Senate refused to consider any option that the house has submitted. Not surprising since the senate leadership has continued to stonewall any financial bill that does anything to defund or even delay implementation of the affordable care act that was passed by the Pelosi controlled house ( which was to be passed before it could be read) and then approved by the Reid controlled Senate and sent to the president who signed it into law. All in the name of “for the good of the people”. The Congress is supposed to represent all Americans and what is best for the country. This Program contains items that have nothing to do with health care, has exemptions for Congressional Representatives and their staff and Senators and their staff. The president is exempt, Many Unions have been granted waivers because if they were to have to participate they would go broke. The Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision said that the part of this act that was in question as to be unconstitutional, was not. No where in the constitution is the right to health care mandated by the government granted.

Back to the possible results of a continued shutdown, if the debt limit is not raised ( for those of the uniformed that is how much the government can borrow on our credit) there is a possibility of the government  defaulting on their loans could happen. A scare tactic to make us afraid not increase the limit. Fellow citizens, let us look at why we have to increase the borrowing limit yet again. The government continues to get bigger and regulate more of everything we do. There are redundant programs for the same things that could be eliminated thus saving money. The Government continues to give aid to countries that willing take our money and use it to fight against us by support groups that are out to destroy us. We may have been the richest nation in the world and I do believe in helping those that can not help themselves, but I do not believe in continuing to support Countries that do not use the funds to help their people. Charity begins at home. We have elderly and children in our own country that go hungry every day, they are suffering because they do not qualify for assistance.Yet our president can go on more vacations to expensive places at the drop of the hat. We continue to send Billions to Pakistan to assist them in the fight against terrorism, yet they harbored Osama Bin Laden for years.

To the politicians in government I have but one thing to say, You are a public servant and are representing all the people not just a few. The money you are spending is not yours and you are no better than anyone else. If you write a bill to affect all the people, than let it affect you as well. You should have to pay into social security and medicare. You should have to fund your own retirement just like the rest of the people, and since you want the government to control healthcare, Than your plan should be regulated just like everyone you have targeted. Yes, I am saying that you should lose all those perks you have given yourselves. During this shutdown, You should not be paid until you have completed your duties. To the Senate, I say, Pass a budget that decreases spending, Eliminates redundant programs and shrinks the size of the bureaucracy. Stop spending money on foreign countries that do not use it to help their people. quit funding the UN’s attempt to usurp our laws. To the President, Sir you need to quit blaming others and take responsibility for your actions or lack of action. You need to stop attempting to circumvent the Constitution and grab power that is not yours. Your policies of only enforcing the laws you like is a travesty. Finally to the United States Supreme Court, Your honors, you have been tasked to interpret the laws to see if they met the standards set forth in the constitution. You are not to legislate from the bench. Your political views are not supposed to cloud your legal views. I suggest that you reread the constitution and consider the meaning that the framers had when they wrote it. It is Black and White, there is no grey of “fuzzy” area.

Religion vs. Religious views

To many that pull this up on a Google search, The title will not be of interest. “Just another person professing their Idea’s” some may think or maybe “Oh no, Another Religious nut telling me I am going to…” , If you are still reading than you are obviously intrigued by the title, content or just plain curious about the difference. I will begin by saying that my views are my own and you are absolutely free to agree or disagree with them. I also am not going to “Trash” any faith or denomination in this piece. What I am going to do is state plainly my views on what I see as the difference between the two.

The obvious is that religion and faith are two totally different things. To have faith does not make one “religious”! Nor does being a member of any denomination mean that you have faith. How one applies the views that their belief in any particular religious denomination  Can be viewed as one that has faith. OK friend so what is the difference between religion and religious views?

Define religion.  1.a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

This was the 1st definition on the above link. There are more than this one so take a look you might be surprised.

Another one ; something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience: to make a religion of fighting prejudice.

And one from the World  English Dictionary: Something overwhelmingly important to a person. The example given for this one was “Football is his RELIGION”.

Pretty much sums it up. So what about Religious views?  I could try to be funny and quote a previous President of the United States and say “It depends on what the definition of “Is” is, but that would be tacky, although accurate, still tacky. So I will give you  definition of “Religious Views”: It is the view a person takes on something that is extremely important to them that would include their set of beliefs and moral code of conduct.

With that definition I can ask, and this is not speaking down to or criticizing another persons beliefs, Is Atheism a religion?

Ponder that one for a bit and comment on my views if you like.
